ControlLogix brings together the benefits of the Logix platform — common programming environment, common networks, common control engine — to provide the high-performance your application requires in an easy-to-use environment. With memory options ranging up to 8MB, ControlLogix controllers support intensive process applications and provide fast processing of motion instructions in a single integrated solution.

ControlLogix provides modular network communications that let you purchase only what you need. Interface using ControlLogix communication modules via a ControlLogix gateway, without the need for a processor in the gateway chassis, or interface directly to a ControlLogix processor.

The ControlLogix solution also provides time synchronization capabilities, which is useful in first fault and process sequencing applications especially.

ControlLogix controllers provide a wide range of multi-disciplined controllers to solve any industrial application from 750Kbyte controllers for small apps to controllers with embedded SERCOS.

Applications

System Redundancy with Bumpless Switchover

Optional ControlLogix hardware redundancy modules support fully-redundant controller architectures with no additional programming required. Programs are automatically cross-loaded from the primary to the secondary controller. In addition, while scanning your program, the primary controller automatically updates the secondary with any data changes needed to keep it synchronized. Then, if the primary controller fails, control is automatically switched to the secondary system. Highest priority functions are guaranteed a 'bumpless transfer' during control switchover, extremely important for process control applications.

Optional redundant power supplies help to assure distributed I/O chassis keep running in the event of primary power supply failure. Redundant media ControlNet bridges handle communication to your I/O while HMI communication can be performed using either ControlNet or Ethernet modules in the redundant controller chassis.

 

 

ControlLogix is T?V-Certified for Use in SIL 2 Applications

Today's manufacturers are faced with meeting new and emerging safety standards and regulations combined with competitive pressure to reduce costs and increase productivity. These manufacturers require safe, reliable systems to safeguard people, property, the environment, and reputations. Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 2 certification of ControlLogix products by T?V makes it simpler, easier, and less expensive for these manufacturers to meet growing standards compliance requirements worldwide.

Unlike other manufacturers, in obtaining Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 2 certification for its ControlLogix family, Rockwell Automation did not need to create a special line of products to meet stringent SIL 2 requirements. Sophisticated diagnostics and high levels of reliability are standard design in ControlLogix processors, I/O modules, and communication products.

Achieving a SIL 2 Safety Integrity Level for systems using standard, off-the-shelf ControlLogix products requires no additional training and ensures that spares are readily available. That's why many major petroleum companies today use ControlLogix, saving more than 80% of the cost of other solutions.

Independent analyses have confirmed Safe Failure Fractions for the processors at well over 95%. Diagnostic I/O, including outputs that pulse test to verify that outputs are working, provide pre-emptive warnings of potential issues before they become reality. These I/O modules also provide field-side testing for shorts, opens, and broken wires.

Analysis of field data confirms reliability metrics including high Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF). For example, ControlLogix components for a sample 24V dc safety loop can result in MTBFs of more than a million hours or 100 years! This same field data, when used to estimate a Probability of Failure on Demand (PFD) yields values of 10-6. Such performance sets a new standard for reliability and availability - increasing safety, productivity, and profits while reducing down time, nuisance trips, and lifecycle costs for all customers.

 

ControlLogix/SOE Solutions Now Offer Sub-Millisecond Event Detection

Since their introduction, ControlLogix systems have supported time stamping functions to address a variety of application requirements. Now, with the introduction of the Sequence of Events (SOE) input module, ControlLogix solutions move beyond the basics to take a quantum leap forward.

The SOE module incorporates features that enhance ControlLogix system-level capabilities to address application requirements that are unachievable with standard input modules. The ability to timestamp to a per point level and to discriminate between input transitions occurring within 100 microseconds of each other enable the Logix solution to compete with DCS and proprietary control systems in utility and substation automation, process optimization, and first fault detection systems.

Kinetix provides true integration of sequential and motion control with just one controller and one software package that integrate control, drive, and motor through a SERCOS interface. Motion control functions are embedded as part of the RSLogix 5000 programming software and are executed in ControlLogix and SoftLogix controllers.

Scalable Process Control Using One Programming Software Package for Process and Discrete Applications

The Logix architecture provides a highly scalable process control solution. Large applications with thousands of I/O points are readily handled by the ControlLogix platform, while small applications can be cost-effectively controlled by our CompactLogix and FlexLogix platforms. Regardless of which Logix controller you use, you use the same RSLogix 5000 software for programming and have access to the same process control instruction set. In fact, you can easily copy routines of code between any of the Logix controller types.

RSLogix 5000 provides world-class Function Block Diagramming and Sequential Function Chart editors, making it easy to implement your continuous and batch process control algorithms. In addition, all of our Logix controllers have a built-in library of process control instructions which provide the tools you need to effectively control your processes.

Whether you need to support cascaded PID loops, flow totalization, two- and three-state device control, or motor operated valves, we have built-in functions to directly support these and other application needs. All of these functions are standard firmware instructions in the Logix controller family, meaning that a cost-effective process control solution is available for any application size.

RSLogix 5000 software's programming editors also support uploading the project from the controller- making maintenance much easier - even if you don't have the latest version of the project on your computer.

Logix-based process control is further simplified by using the pre-configured operator faceplates in RSLogix 5000. You can drop these faceplates into any ActiveX container such as RSView visualization software, often eliminating the need to create custom operator screens.
